Take your pet license from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday morning.
The Cubbon Park Canines (CPC), an active Facebook community of animal lovers, in association with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is organizing the fifth edition of pet licensing camp in Bengaluru. All you need to do is carry your pet’s vaccination records along with proof of your identification and address. The license will be provided by municipality on the spot, at a minimal charge of Rs 110.
The camp will also provide free medical check-up and subsidized rabies vaccination for pets. In case your pet is already vaccinated, rabies titer test result can be accepted as an alternative document to vaccination record. The camp will also extend a chance to get tips by city’s best-known trainers on your pet’s nutrition and grooming. The health check is being handled by Charlie’s Animal Rescue Center (CARE).
This year, the camp comes with a fast track license queue for Indies, rescues and neutered dogs to recognise both the special dogs and their special compassionate human friends. If your pet is already vaccinated, license can be obtained by just producing valid documents. It should be noted that the certificate provided by the Kennel Club of India (KCI) is only a breed confirmation and cannot be treated as a license.
CPC will also share information on community initiatives like Citizens for Animal Birth Control (CABC), Adopt Don’t Shop campaign, Canine Blood Donation campaign, Virtual Pet Parkies project and Animal rescue program, to mention a few.
Why should I get a license for my dog?
As per the rules set for dog owners by BBMP, all pet licenses expire on March 31 every year, making renewal important. Moreover, it is only a matter of time before pet license becomes mandatory in Bengaluru like in New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Additionally, by getting your pet registered, you will help in building up a database for pet dog census. In the eventuality of a lost or stolen pet, it will be easier to track a licensed/registered dog. The process also will help BBMP with tracking down irresponsible pet owners too. A licensed dog is a vaccinated dog and mandatory licensing will thus ensure mandatory vaccination or yearly rabies test via the titer. The objective of pet licensing is also to make the city safer for you and your pet.
Most apartment complexes are insisting on pet licenses.
Post the BAF bylaws on pets guidelines, member associations can no more attempt to override the constitution and laws to ban pets in apartment complexes. Many pet parents living in apartments have complaints about apartment associations and how they are often unfriendly to pet owners. Having a pet license under these circumstances makes sure pet owners are not differentiated.
Last but not the least, by making registration mandatory and a separate license requirement for breeders, the registration drives can also be used to keep track of illegal breeders. This will contribute to deterring illegal and unhealthy breeding practices.
Since its inception five years ago, the drive has issued over 1500 licenses so far.
